1/11/2014 – Hatters v Manchester Mystics U14s

Posted by:

The first real test for the Hatters under 14’s came when the unbeaten Manchester Mystics visited All Saints.

The Hatters girls put on a spirited performance against a more experienced Manchester side, with the Hatters only having three players with any significant national league experience, never the less hatters pushed Manchester all the way, but never really recovered from a 2nd quarter littered with mistakes, the half finishing with the Hatters 36-22 down.

Hatters came out for the third quarter with renewed vigor after the half time break, putting Manchester under constant pressure and scoring some important baskets, at one point pulling the deficit back to 4 points, helped by the vocal home support the Hatters won the quarter 16-15 with the end of third quarter score finishing 51-38 to Manchester.

The Fourth quarter followed a similar pattern to the third with the Hatters grabbing the initiative and taking the game to Manchester, who ultimately proved to strong and showed why they are one of the top sides in the northern division, but the Hatters side can be proud of their performance, and can take many positives out of the game, not least the solid performances from all the new players against a more experienced Manchester side. There is much more to come from the Hatters side as the season progresses, we will push Manchester all the way to the finish line and look forward to the return matches against them.

Hatters scorers were:
Jess Southwell 11
Iona Mckerrow 10
Brigha Allen 9
Tashinga Matewe 8
Catherine Gwenero 8
Lauren Knowles 3
