Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters 85 (27,50,63) (Naylor 29, Gandy 15, Campbell 10)
Leicester Riders 73 (16,24,43) (Bratka 33, Bailey 11, Bratka 10)
In the only WBBL Championship game of the day, Helen Naylor put together an impressive performance as Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters defeated Leicester Riders 85-73 on Saturday.
Having improved to a 4-1 record, the Hatters are now joint second in the league standings with Team Northumbria, who have an identical record. Meanwhile, it was already the third loss in a row for Riders, who dropped to 3-3 after a perfect start.
Sheffield took command right from the get-go, building a double-digit lead in the first quarter at 27-16. Having outscored the visitors 23-8 in the second period, Hatters increased the gap to 26 points at the half.
Although Riders finally found their groove offensively in the second half and began to erase the deficit rapidly, the margin was too big to cover, as the visitors fell short after horrific first two quarters.
Helen Naylor had a team-high 29 points for Hatters, with Steph Gandy chipping in with 15. For Riders, Maaja Bratka finished the game with a total of 33 points, but it wasn’t enough for the Leicester club.
