Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters moved level with Team Northumbria in second place in the WBBL Championship after a comfortable 65-46 success at Brixton Topcats on Sunday.

Stephanie Gandy’s leadership was key once again, as her game-high 17 points drove the Sheffield club to a fifth straight victory.

After a tight opening period, the visitors pulled away in the second, outscoring their hosts 23-9, cranking up the pressure on defence.

James Vear’s side stuck with it and slowed their opponents down in the second half as Mrashi Karumba provided their principal scoring threat – finishing with 15 points – but Hatters had already put themselves in too good a position to squander their advantage.

Hatters remain well in the hunt for the WBBL Championship title while Topcats have now taken just one win from their opening eight league games.
