Baskets of fun for young players at summer camp

Sheffield Hatters and Sheffield Saints hosted a successful basketball camp in preparation for the new junior season.

Players aged from six to 15 took part in the camp at All Saints Sports Centre from the clubs’ junior sections but also from across South Yorkshire.

Coaches included Hatters senior team boss Vanessa Ellis, who was also the Great Britain assistant coach for the London 2012 Olympic Games and continues to work with the national team in the same capacity.

Hatters Win Leeds Summer CVL

Sheffield Hatters Under 14’s won the Leeds Carnegie U14 Girls Summer CVL.

Having a number of players on holiday and with 2 players who are new to the game and had only ever played a couple of games before we knew it would be a tough afternoon with only 4 points splitting Hatters, Bury and Lapwings at the start of the day.

Hatters first game was against Bury, who came away with a shock win beating Hatters by 1 point.

Hatters Girls Represent Yorkshire U13’s

Hatters had strong representation in the recent Yorkshire squad that played the regional development tournament in Lillishall in July.
The Yorkshire squad had a relatively inexperienced side with Jess, Lauren and Holly the only ones with any real national league experience, even so they finished a very respectable 6th place, with Jess top scoring over the weekend for Yorkshire with 44 points.

Hatters Successfully Make it into Yorkshire U13 Team

The Yorkshire U13 Girls team has been announced as highlighted in the team list below. Sheffield Hatters have successfully got into the team. The team will be travelling up to Edinburgh this coming weekend to play in an invitational tournament versus Scotland U13s plus Scottish U14 Girls club teams followed by Lilleshall the weekend after. On Saturday 14th June 2014 Leeds Carnegie hosted a five team round 3 of the Summer 2014 U14 Girls central venue league at LMU Arena featuring Sheffield Hatters, Stockport Lapwings, Bury Blue Devils, North Yorkshire and Leeds Carnegie with Sheffield jumping above Bury in the overall league table. Harrisons’ Standout Finals Performance Leads to England Select

The Westfield Health City of Sheffield Hatters under 14s squad can now call themselves the number one team in England.

 

The Hatters came out on top of the England Basketball weekend after defeating the Manchester Mystics 76-53 in the semi-finals, and beating the Southend Swifts in the finals 74-62.
