Division 1 Face Tough Competition in First Home Game

Posted by:

This Saturday the Sheffield Hatters took part in their first home game of the season versus the Cardiff Archers. With both teams coming off a win for their last match, the Archers proved to be the victor in this game with a final score of 77-74. Throughout the entire game both teams were close in scoring which resulted in an exciting game. At the half the Hatters were only down by one point with the score at 31-30.

There were frequent moments that it could have been either team that took the win. With 43 seconds left the Hatters were down by seven points, and it appeared that the game had been decided. Coach Ellis of the Hatters, called a timeout and whatever she said in the huddle pushed her girls through for one final surge. With hard fought efforts the Hatters cut the score to one again at 75-74. However, favor went to the Archers with a miraculous contested by S. Collins shot to seal the win.

Top players for the game on the Archers were S. Collins with 25points, E. Ravin with 17points, and J. Jenkins with 13 points. Equally impressive performances from the Hatters with top scores from K. Lee who had 21 points, S. Gandy with 15 points, and H. Naylor chipped in 11 points. Lee and Gandy had their debut appearances on the season and they did not disappoint with their efforts. This was only the second match on the season for the Hatters, who are now (1-1), and the first game that their roster was at full strength. Although the night resulted in a loss for the Hatters, there is much potential once the team clocks more court time together. The Sheffield Hatters will prepare for Round 5 this week as they travel to take on the Sevenoaks Suns.
