This weekend, the Sheffield Hatters (7-0) will be meeting up with two teams that they have yet to face this season. On Sunday, the Hatters host UWIC Archers (4-2) who currently sit in 4th place. After dropping their first two games this season, Cardiff have come back to win four straight. The Hatters will look to continue their strong play and gaining another victory. This game also welcomes back Lauren Thomas-Johnson who missed the last game in December as well as the appearance of the newly-wed Sarah Cooney (formally Sarah Naylor) who was ill and did not play in the last game. Charmain Purcell’s sister Hayley will also be making her first appearance on court for the Hatters this weekend. Sheffield and UWIC last met in the Finals last season where Sheffield claimed victory winning by 9 points. However, with the loss of UWIC coach Damien Jennings and some key players, it will be tough for UWIC to match up to a very strong Hatters team.
On Sunday, Hatters travel down to play against Newham Stars (0-6). Newham sits at the bottom of the league table. This could easily look as though Sheffield will walk away with victory, but Coach Vanessa, who despite the margins of victories the Hatters have accrued this season, will not expect anything less than hard work and solid team play. This will be Newham’s second game in the new year. They lost on 6th of January to Barking Abbey by 5 points and look to still try to capture their first win.
