City of Sheffield Hatters U14s Girls were left to rue a host of missed free throws as they went down to a hard fought 54-59 defeat in Manchester. An evenly matched 1st quarter started with the lead changing hands on a number of occasions before Manchester edged a one point lead at 19-18. The 2nd quarter was an even tighter affair with the scoreboard staying inactive for long periods. Unfortunately Hatters let their frustrations get the better of them and Manchester increased their advantage to 5 going into the halfway break with a 29-24 lead.
At the start of the 3rd quarter Manchester came out blazing and a shell shocked Hatters team had to endure a time out roasting from their coach as they slipped to 19 points behind. The pep talk seemed to do the trick as Hatters finally took the initiative and pulled back to go in to the final quarter at 37-49. The final quarter saw the best and worse as chance after chance went begging especially from the free throw line, but the girls fought hard to the end and managed to close the gap to a respectable 5 points.
