Hatters U16 travelled to Cheshire Panthers looking for a positive response to their opening defeat against Manchester last weekend. The first three minutes saw Hatters take an 11 point lead with no response from Cheshire. Cheshire came back leaving Hatters 14 – 21 up after the first Quarter. Hatters made a poor start to the 2nd Quarter with Cheshire taking the lead 23 – 21, for the first and only time. Hatters responded to take a 10 point lead, ending the first Half 25 – 36 up. Cheshire came out strong at the start of the 3rd Quarter, but unable to prevent Hatters pulling back to a 45 – 58 point lead. Hatters capitalised on Cheshire’s foul trouble in the Final Quarter to go to the Line 12 times, finally winning 54 – 64.
Particular mention to Captain Molly Axelby and Jo Lowry, whose defence caused a number of ‘8 second’ calls and Courtney Bennett’s rebounding and Millie Dooley’s 3 point play at the end of the 3rd Quarter. Eleanor Goodwin was top scorer with 24 Points, Jo Lowry 18 points, Courtney Bennett 10 points, Millie Dooley 5 points, Molly Axelby 3 points, Shauna Harrison and Beth Rutherford 2 points each. Eleanor Neath and Nancy Ncuti rebounded well, Zoe Silcock, J.D. Quinn and Iona McKerrow each made their mark.
