Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters maintained the top spot in the WBBL Championship table with an 87-63 victory against the visiting Brixton Topcats at All Saints High School on Saturday evening.
The hosts improved their league-best record to 14-1, while the ninth-placed Topcats stayed outside the playoff picture, dropping to a 2-11 mark.
Led by Steph Gandy, the Sheffield side got off to a quick start, taking a 29-20 lead after the opening quarter, as offence dominated the game in the early going.
Hatters managed to increase the gap to double figures by the halftime break, with their lead growing to 47-36, but Brixton did not allow the deficit to grow further in the third quarter, carrying over the 11-point deficit into the last period.
However, it did not take long for Sheffield to put the game to rest in the last period
Gandy led all scorers with 21 points, Lauren Thomas-Johnson collected 16, while Skye Reese added 13 in a winning performance for the home side.
For Topcats, Ta’Yani Clark had a team-high 18 points, as Jenaya Wade-Fray contributed with 17 points.
