Hatters v Calderdale – U12s

Posted by:

Hatters once again started strong putting pressure on Calderdales guards straight away, forcing turnovers and contested shots. It seemed easy to predict from the start the direction the game was heading, however Calderdales resilience made sure the prediction did not come true.

Hatters jumped out to a 18 – 0 start and held their opponents scoreless for 7 minutes 25 seconds until Calderdale finally got their first bucket. Hatters pushed out a lead by good defence, fast breaks and offensive rebounding for second and third chance efforts.

At the beginning of the 2nd quarter, Calderdale made a run by putting more pressure on the Hatters which caused turnovers. The opposition were gaining confidence and made 3 baskets in a row.

At the beginning of the second half, Coach Gayle put on the bigs. There was less dribbling but turnovers were high and consequently less scoring opportunities while Calderdale capitalised by going on a run and cut into Hatters lead. To end the third quarter with just seconds to go, Daisy blocked a shot, outletted the ball for a fast break layup which was missed but Daisy continued her tremendous hustle play by sprinting 80 feet down the floor and grabbing the rebound and putting the ball back in as the seconds ran down.

The final quarter was a formality. Hatters once again pulled away and finished the game strong. It was never close in the end and 61 – 26 scoreline could have easily been 81 – 26.

Well done Hatters!
