Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters 95 (19,42,63) (Gandy 25, Naylor 19, Winborne 15)
Cardiff Met Archers 70 (23,39,51) (Wagstaff 21, Fritz 18, Collins 13)
Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters shrugged off the absence of recent Great Britain debutante Georgia Gayle to ride their way to a 95-70 success against Cardiff Met Archers.
The visitors had arrived in Yorkshire with an upturn in confidence after claiming their first victory of the season less than 24 hours earlier, via a superb late comeback against Oaklands Wolves.
It looked like they had picked up where they left off during the opening ten minutes as they racked up a 23-19 first quarter lead.
Still ahead 31-30, it looked like Archers might fold when they were outscored 10-3, but a big triple from Judit Fritz made it a one-shot game at half-time. But, Hatters began to turn the screw in the second half and when GB winger Helena Naylor increased the hosts’ advantage to double-digits at 59-49, they never had cause to look back.
Steph Gandy accumulated a classy double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds, Spanish centre Debora Gonzalez had a superb seven of eight from the floor and teenager Jo Lowry registered an excellent 14 points.
