Hatters v Leeds – U18s

Posted by:

Today Sheffield Hatters under 18s came up against a very determined City of Leeds team. The girls knew today was going to be a tough day, one they needed to win to help in their push for the playoffs.
The first quarter was a bit of a slow starter. Catherine broke the deadlock by putting in a rebound that was swiftly followed by a lovely 3 pointer from Millie. The first quarter ended 13 v 6 to the Hatters.
In the second quarter the girls successfully executed a trap on Leeds turning possession over and scored a lovely layup from it. The girls then went into a high court press and gained another quick 4 points from it. Leeds did not give in continually driving towards basket and scoring successive layups. The girls went into halftime 22 v 16 up.
In the third quarter the girls really showed their character as they continued to move about and find and create the space scoring 18 points from the quarter but Leeds were counter attacking very strongly and scored 16 points from the quarter. The score was 40 v 32 to the Hatters all to play for in the final quarter.
What a final quarter it was, a master class in long range shooting with 3 three pointers and successive long distance 2’s. The Hatters scored 22 points in the last quarter sealing a hard fought victory 62 v 46.
Leeds came out and worked very hard today and the score does not necessarily reflect how the match went, it was a real tough slog for the Hatters girls, one their determination and never say die attitude got them through. Well done girls!!!!
Today we had two scorers that were on fire, Brigha and Millie. Millie scored 5 lovely layups, a jump shot, a fantastic 3 pointer and 3 free throws and Brigha scored 3 jump shots, 3 layups, 1 free throw and 2 outstanding 3 pointers. Between them they scored 37 of the 62 points. Outstanding girls!!! Unfortunately for Millie, Brigha just pipped her for top scorer at the last minute sinking her second successive 3 pointer in the 4th quarter, scoring 19 points to Millies 18.
