The first quarter contained a mammoth 18 fouls between the sides in what proved to be a somewhat physical encounter. Although the Hatters had a very slow start against a surprise zone defence from the visitors they pulled in front behind Jo Lowry’s 11 points to a 18-13 lead.
The second quarter proved to be the decisive one when Hatters really hurt Mystics, settling into their normal game and finding the offence come easily behind tough defence – resulting in a lead Mystics never took back going 40-29 into the locker room. The second half saw Hatters continue to dominate, despite Mystics attempts to fight back including a full court press – with Eleanor Goodwin finally finding the net scoring all of her 15 points in the second half. The visiting team only had 2 players in double figures and had influential England players Gina Brierley and Keani Potter kept to 6 and 2 points respectively. A fantastic team performance and points coming from all angles is what really made the difference between the sides.
