Hatters v Manchester U16s

Posted by:

The first game of the season started with a tough match against Manchester Mystics. The Hatters girls got off to a good start, holding back Mystics with some excellent defence keeping the score fairly equal at 6-8. Due to turnovers in the last few minutes and lack of defence by the Hatters, Manchester took advantage and pulled ahead finishing the 1st quarter 9 – 18. This seemed to be the pattern for the 2nd quarter and it wasn’t till the last quarter that a change of momentum came for the Hatters when the Mystics did a bad foul resulting in 2 free throws successfully taken. Hatters tight defence caused Mystics to make errors giving the Hatters the advantage and ending with the Hatters being the 4th quarter highest scorers at 18 – 16. Despite fighting hard and being without a key player due to injury it wasn’t enough to beat a more experienced Manchester side. The final score was 54 – 71 to Manchester.
