Today Sheffield Hatters under 18s had a tough game ahead of them against Manchester Mystics. Both sides needed to win to help in their push for the playoffs.
Sheffield Hatters won the tip and set off on the offensive, their first few shots missed but were great siters before the girls put in two lovely jump shots and started the ball rolling. They went on to take the first quarter 20 points to 12.
The girls had a slow start to the 2nd quarter and Manchester started to dominate and narrow the gap but the girls worked hard and restricted them to only 8 points in their period of dominance whilst putting in 6 points of their own. The Hatters then really attacked the Manchester defense scoring 12 points in 4 minutes. At halftime the score was 38 v 23. Great 1st half girls.
The 3rd quarter started really well with the girls picking up where they left off, pressing high up the court forcing manchester into making mistakes then scoring on the counter. It soon became a quarter that was all about the fouls, both teams were on team fouls but Sheffield continued to drive to basket and gained 25 points from the quarter leading 63 v 40 going into the final quarter.
In the last quarter there were 2 outstanding blocks one by Brigha and the other by Catherine. Jess then went on to score a lovely 3 pointer but Manchester were persistent and never gave up and outscored the Hatters in the final quarter 15 points to 16. The final score finished 78 v 56. Outstanding effort by the Hatters girls.
The top scorer today was Millie on 21 points scoring 5 free throws, 2 jump shots and 8 layups. Millie showed great composure in the game and a fantastic range of finishes.
