Hatters v Manchester – U18s

Sheffield Hatters under 18’s came up against an in form Manchester Mystics side, that had won there last 3 games. The Hatters girls got off to a slow start been outplayed by quick accurate passing losing the 1st quarter 7 v 19. In the 2nd quarter Sheffield dominated the plays both offensively and defensively restricting the mystics to just 6 points. The Hatters went in to half time winning 28 v 27. The Hatters continued to outscore the Mystics in the 3rd quarter by 16 points to 13. The 3rd quarter score ended 44 v 40. In the 4th quarter both teams were pushing for the win, the Mystics outscored the Hatters by 14 points to 10, this meant we were heading for overtime, 5 additional minutes to get the win. The first overtime period was a bit of a stalemate both teams matching each other ending 58 v58. Both sides were very nervous battling to win all 3 points. The 2nd period of overtime ended 65 v 65. In the 3rd period of overtime the Hatters girls started to control the ball again leaving the Mystics girls having to chase the ball as the Hatters went 71 v 66 up with about 4 minutes left through quick intuitive plays and a free throw. This scenario meant that Manchester were having to foul to get the ball back quickly. It was a fantastic match to watch if not a bit tense at the end. The final score ended 74 v 67 to the Hatters.

The top scorer was Millie Oates scoring 5 lovely mid-range 2 point shots and 9 free throws totalling 19 points.

The under 18s next match is against Newcastle in the cup on Sunday 29th October tipping at 4pm.
