Hatters v Newcastle – U16s (Cup)

The Sheffield Hatters came up against a well drilled Newcastle side in the National Cup today. The Hatters girls had a tough start being restricted to just 5 points in the opening quarter as Newcastle came out and played a zonal defense to good effect. The 1st quarter ended 5 v 11 to Newcastle. The 2nd quarter was more positive for the Hatters they scored a lovely 3 pointer that sparked the game into life. All of a sudden Newcastle found themselves on the back foot been pressurised and made a couple of mistakes that lead to several baskets in quick succession. At half-time the score was 26 v 21 to the Hatters. In the 3rd quarter the Hatters came out and changed tactics and went to playing a zonal defense as well and started to become more clinical in finishing. The gaps started to appear and the Hatters capitalised on this. The 3rd quarter ended 44 v 35. The Hatters went back to man to man marking in the 4th quarter and continued to push on. The final score ended 66 v 46. The Hatters are now through to the quarter final of the National Cup. All the Hatters girls got on the score sheet today.

The top scorer today was Tash scoring 18 points. This was made up of 2 free throws and 8 attacking rebounds.

The under 18s next match is away at Charnwood. The tip is at 2.15 pm on Sunday 5th November.
