Hatters v Oaklands – Under 18s (Cup)

Posted by:

Sheffield Hatters under 18s came up against a very strong Oakland College Wolves team today in the National Cup quarter final. Oakland’s normally play WBBL but are eligible to play the Under 18 National Cup so thus was going to be a tough game for the Hatters. From the offset Oaklands came out and showed their class with their quick movement of the ball and to generate the space and break the Hatters defense. Oaklands took the first quarter 7 v 25. The Hatters girls kept their heads up in the 2nd quarter and continued to try and play their game but Oaklands were just too strong. The halftime score was 17 v 57. In the 3rd quarter the girls defensive effort was rewarded when they scored 8 points with no reply in 5 mins play but after a quick timeout Oaklands got right back into it again. The 3rd quarter ended 27 v 78. In the 4th quarter Oaklands ended up in foul trouble with one player fouled out and another on 4 fouls, the girls exploited this and began to drive with real purpose putting in a performance that against any other team would have won the game. The final score was 46 v 100 to Oaklands. The top scorer today was Millie Oates on 15 points. The 15 points were made up of 5 free throws, 3 fantastic layups and 2 lovely jump shots.
