Hatters v Peckham Pride – U18 (Cup)

Posted by:

U18 Hatters faced Peckham Pride in the National Cup Quarter Final – in what was a rematch of the u16 playoff quarter final which Hatters clinched by a dramatic 1 point. A slow first quarter from the Hatters setting up on offence with a couple of nervous turnovers meant Peckham went into the lead 15-21 going into the 2nd stanza. A very low scoring 2nd quarter followed with Hatters again struggling to adapt to Peckham’s zone and allowing them second looks on offence meant Peckham’s lead had grown to 22-34. The Hatters, fuelled by the knowledge that they’d managed to come from behind against Peckham at u16 level to win and more recently produced a too late comeback against Manchester, came out of the starting blocks at a sprint. They went on a 14-0 run to lead 36-34 as a result of tenacious defence, patience offence and some brilliant rebounds. This outstanding defensive effort meant Peckham were left scoreless for 8 minutes. Alas it wasn’t to last as Peckham hit back and scored 9 points in 2 minutes to lead going into the last quarter 43-38. This lead proved to be insurmountable for the Hatters, who, despite some excellent free throw shooting, were knocked out of the Cup at a 62-51 loss.
We wish Peckham the best of luck in the next round. The U18s are next in action in the New Year.
