WBBL Trophy Semi-Finals
Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters 67 (10,26,38) (Winborne 20, Naylor 18, Gandy 11)
Sevenoaks Suns 82 (18,37,55) (Carr 28, Lozzi 14 , Nikitinaite 13)
There was joy on the road for Sevenoaks Suns as they reached their first ever WBBL Final with a brilliant 67-82 victory at Hatters. Head coach Len Busch and his side outplayed the hosts throughout as they made the most of a rapid-fire start which laid the foundation for a famous success.
While the triumph was headlined by the irrepressible and top class game of Cat Carr who has been on fire of late, there were also double-digit contributions from teenage duo Gabby Nikitinaite and Dani Lozzi – as well as Anne Pedersen.
Suns never looked back after their positive opening salvo as Hatters struggled to keep pace and 26 points at the interval told the story of Suns’ effective defence and Hatters’ misfiring offence.
Great Britain’s Helen Naylor and forward Brittany Winborne combined for 38 points, but it wasn’t enough for the holders and they found themselves dumped out on their own floor as Suns held firm.
