Hatters v Southwark Pride – Under 18s

Posted by:

Today the Sheffield Hatters under 18s took part in the play off quarter finals at All Saints against Southwark Pride.

The girls started off with some really nice sharp shooting from Jess and Millie, taking an 8-3 lead, but a series of fouls allowed Southwark back into the game. Southwark took the 1st quarter 12 v 13.

The 2nd quarter was a really difficult quarter for the Hatters girls. Southwark were rampant, moving the ball very well and manipulating the defense. A series of 3s and nice moves left them 22 v38 up at halftime.

The Hatters girls were resilient in the 3rd quarter, continuing to play there game and work the space and fashion the chances but Southwark had too much quality. Going into the final quarter Southwark were 32 v 53 up.

The under 18s gave it there all in the final quarter putting on a great defensive show, turning the ball over and pressing trying to force the interceptions and leave themselves a fighting chance. Unfortunately today it was just not to be, the final score was 48 v 71 to Southwark. Congratulations on a hard fought win Southwark and good luck in the final fours.

The top point scorer today was Millie on 19 points. This was made up of five jump shots 4 layups and a free throw.

Unfortunately the season for the under 18s has come to an end. What a season it has been. Girls you have all massively over achieved finishing 2nd in the league securing your play off spot. The pick of your games this season was the triple overtime win against Manchester Mystics, what a win that was. Things will seem raw at the minute but you all play for each other and give 110% every week and we cannot ask for more than that. Thanks to Ian and Mick for the fantastic coaching as always and to Ruth for been a brilliant team manager and keeping us all in check.

Good luck to Dana (under 14s) Zoe and Ava (under 16s) that have all played up for the under 18s this season in their bid for final four glory in there age groups.

The under 18s have one final friendly this season against a team from Sardinia tipping at 18.30 at All Saints on friday 27th April.

Once again girls well done this season. Enjoy your break.
