Newcastle v Hatters – U18s

Posted by:

The Sheffield Hatters under 18s made the long away trip to Newcastle to play a well drilled Newcastle team sitting 3rd in the league on 7 wins and 6 losses.

The 1st quarter started off well for the Hatters they defended brilliantly and really restricted the newcastle offense as they were closing down the space quickly and trapping the Newcastle players. The 1st quarter ended 6 v 13 to the Hatters.

The 2nd quarter was much more open and expansive end to end basketball. This made for a great quarter for the Hatters as the room appeared to make the drives to basket or make the jump shots. At halftime the score was 17 v 34 to the Hatters.

The 3rd quarter started well for the hatters taking a quick 5 points in the first minute but this was then pegged back by Newcastle through lovely movement of the ball and excellent layups. They outscored the Hatters 16 points to 12. The 3rd quarter ended 33 v 46.

Once again in the 4th quarter there was a flurry of lovely finishes from Newcastle but the hatters girls stood strong and saw out the match winning 43 v 54.

The top scorer today was Tash. Tash was outstanding using all her strength to win both offensive and defensive rebounds. Tash scored 5 offensive rebounds, 1 jump shot and a free throw finishing on 13 points.
