Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters made it four wins from four in the WBBL Trophy after defeating Team Northumbria 84-94 on the road.

Helen Naylor and Steph Gandy led the way with 25 points apiece in the win with the Hatters already assured of top spot in the North Group.

Sheffield opened up an early eight-point advantage at 9-17 in the first as a high-scoring opening period ensued. The home side were down six after 10 minutes and surged ahead to lead 40-36 in the second period.

However, the Hatters re-took the lead going into half-time before it continued to change hands when play resumed for the third.

An 11-0 run put the visitors in control and they maintained their double-digit advantage by the end of the quarter. Northumbria made a late charge and cut the gap to two on the back of a 7-2 run.

Back-to-back scores from Gandy followed in a decisive 10-2 response to all but secure the win.

Alison Gorrell top scored for Northumbria with 28 points, but they were unable to derail the Hatters.
