Top-of-the-table Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters stayed hot in the WBBL Championship and extended their winning streak to 13 games with an 87-66 victory against Team Northumbria on the road at Sport Central on Saturday.
Steph Gandy paced the winners with a game-high 33 points and 14 rebounds, as the visitors cruised to yet another routine win, outscoring Northumbria 50-32 in the paint.
Hatters started the game strong and were in front throughout much of the evening. Having won the first quarter 23-18, Sheffield had shortly allowed Northumbria to sneak in front after an 8-2 stretch in the second quarter, but the guests responded well and finished the first half up 42-32.
Vanessa Ellis’ side continued to build an advantage after the interval, increasing the gap to 15 points before cementing the win with a solid fourth quarter.
Lauren Thomas-Johnson collected 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists for Hatters, while Skye Rees added 19 points and six boards.
Meanwhile, Teresa Manigrasso led Team Northumbria with 26 points, as Fiona O’Dwyer and Kayla Mobley chipped in with 13 and 12 points respectively.
