Nottingham Wildcats continued their pursuit of the top four as they used a late run to beat rivals Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters 79-74 at Wildcats Arena.

The sixth-placed Wildcats have now won five of their last six games in all competitions, and have taken this season’s WBBL Championship head-to-head with Hatetrs while also levelling the all-time league head-to-head at four wins apiece.

Leading scorers – Harris 25, Lovett 19, S’Bahi 15 (Wildcats); Naylor 21, Gandy 16, Velkey 13 (Hatters)

Turning point – Trailing by six with six minutes to play, Ashley Harris, Siobhan Prior and Onayssa S’Bahi hit three-pointers that sparked a late 17-4 surge, with the hosts taking the lead back at 73-72 on another Harris score. They allowed their visitors just two points in nearly four minutes at the end of the game, clamping down on defence to secure the win.

Key stat – Wildcats contested every shot late on to get back into the game, forcing Hatters to miss 12 of their 17 field goal attempts in the fourth quarter, including every shot that wasn’t right at the basket.

Game hero – Ashley Harris scored key baskets in that late run on her way to another huge double-double of 25 points and 13 rebounds.
