Hatter U16’s girls began their season away in Nottingham at the Wildcats Arena, on the 4th October with a 1:00pm tip. The first quarter was very tight, with both teams scoring equally for the first few minuets, with Iona Mckerrow leading Hatters with the first 4 points, helped by Tash Matewe rebounding effectively at both ends. The first quarter ended with Hatters leading 16-14. The second and third quarters were identical, with a score of 12 to Hatters, and 9 to Wildcats. As we entered the second half, the Hatters intensified their defence, putting the Wildcats in foul trouble and causing many turnovers and steals from pressing full court. With the Wildcats strongest point scorer, Maya Hyacienth, with 18, becoming unable to play in the final quarter, the Hatters pulled away with Shauna Harrison scoring 8 unanswered points and Veronique Francis-Lewis shooting well from the outside. Esme Court-Johnson had a strong debut working well in defence after her summer move from Leeds. The game finished with Emmy Baily-Taylor scoring the final 2 points after Shauna with 21 points, Jess, 11, Iona, 8, Brigha, 7, Tash, 6, Ronnie 4, securing a 59-38 victory.
