Posted by:

Sheffield Hatters U16’s face a bitter cup exit at the hands of Nottingham Wildcats after a close 73 – 64 defeat last weekend. Shauna Harrison scored the first basket of the game, however it was clear Nottingham had their eyes set on winning  as they quickly evened out the score. The first quarter continued in this way with both teams pushing for the lead, although the Hatters pushed harder and finished the quarter with 23 points to the Wildcat’s 17. The second quarter remained just as tense as the first with both teams keeping the intensity high. Nottingham fought hard for rebounds, fighting for every loose ball and managing to make up the difference in points. Despite excellent shooting from Emma Cheetham and Veronique Francis-Lewis the score was 39 – 39 at half time. It was all to play for in the 3rd quarter and the score remained nail bitingly close with neither team being able to dominate. Some quick drives to basket from the Wildcats made the score 58 – 53 to the home team. The fourth quarter saw both teams step it up a level in a final attempt to claim victory. The Hatters girls played an effective full court press from which they achieved some good steals, however even with Jessica Southwell’s excellent defence it just wasn’t enough and the final score was 73 – 64 to Nottingham.
