City of Sheffield Hatters vs Stockport Lapwings.
Hatters stormed to victory against Stockport Lapwings away on the 14th January. The entire team put in effort to achieve an eventual 69-point win. The team consisted of: Vanessa Chinyere-Oji (4), Alice Fallon (5), Zoe Kateregga (6), Maizie Melady (7), Jess Morey (8), Esmee Mortimer (9), Gianah Modest (10), Maisie Palmer (11), Laetitia Kasongo (12), Charlotte Timms (13), Steph Oliver (14) and Morgan Peach (15).
The game began with a brilliant drive to basket from Jess causing the Hatters to get an early lead against the Lapwings. but it doesn’t stop there, with a drive from the Baseline from Gianah and even one from the top of the key by Alice, Stockport couldn’t find a player to defend. And with some amazing rebounds and put backs from the whole team the opposition didn’t stand a chance. The quarter ended Hatters 32 – Lapwings 5.
In the second quarter there were some silly fouls from the hatters leading to the Lapwings to gain a few lucky baskets, but that didn’t last long as the Sheffield girls got their act together and with some brilliant steals and some excellent high-low plays from Charlotte and Vanessa they restarted their streak. This lead to the half ending Sheffield 45 – Stockport 14.
By the third quarter the Hatters were in complete control of the court, slowing down their offence to score some easy baskets and steering the opposition into a corner on theirs. And after some amazing steals from Zoe and brilliant rebounds from Charlotte and Vanessa the massacre of a quarter ended Hatters 73 – Lapwings 21.
The fourth quarter saw the Sheffield girls put Stockport out of their misery with some lightning fast steals and cleverly planned defence. Even incorporating some new out of bound plays. The Lapwings never stood a chance as the Hatters dominated the court leaving them in the dust. After a last ten minutes of torture for the opposition the game ended Sheffield 94 – Stockport 25.
The top scorer for the hatters this game was Jess Morey with 14 points.
