The inaugural award was presented by Graham Moore of Westfield Health to Cathrine Gwenero from Hatters U16 team, for her great attitude, level of commitment and contribution to the whole club programme. We want to thank Tony and Susie for introducing this annual award which also includes a club membership bursary in recognition of the junior player who has been an exemplary role model throughout the season. Tony and Susie are valued supporters of the Hatters and are often seen at many of the WBBL and Junior matches. We are very grateful for their continued support over the years and it is due to people like the Barnes why we can manage to keep going year after year. – Loraine Gayle (Hatters)
“Our involvement with The Hatters started a number of years ago following their appeal for help with financing their bus. We were concerned that such a vibrant and talented Club should be struggling in this way and have continued our support. Over the years we have watched the development of both the younger and older players. It is wonderful to see their joy and the dedication of the volunteers, families and supporters.
We are proud to be part of this wonderful family and now wish to establish this award to represent our commitment and , in particular, provide encouragement to the younger members of the Club.
We continue to be disappointed by the lack of media coverage for The Hatters and, of course, all women’s sports”.Tony & Susie Barnes
