Vanessa Ellis has been handed the honour of being named Molten WBBL Coach of the Month for November.
The play-caller guided her Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters side through the period unbeaten and was the only head coach who didn’t taste a defeat during the month.
After the shock of their National Cup exit and an early WBBL Championship loss in October, Ellis has got her team firmly back on track with four league victories, as well as taking her team into the semi-finals of the WBBL Trophy.
The five wins were all convincing ones and Hatters came out of the month with a mammoth +98 basket difference in their games, with the club b oosted by the return to action of Great Britain forward Steph Gandy,
Hatters started the month with a 73-49 success at home to Sevenoaks Suns and followed it up with what turned out to be their biggest test – an 85-73 triumph against Leicester Riders.
They then came out on top in a ‘Battle of the Roses’ double against Manchester Mystics, firstly registering an 87-61 win in the WBBL Championship, before romping into the last four of the WBBL Trophy a week later after a similarly comfortable 76-59 triumph.
Ellis and Hatters then wrapped up the action in November by storming to a 65-46 road victory at Brixton Topcats.
Ellis fought off strong competition from Nottingham head coach Dave Greenaway, who kept his side unbeaten in the league and WBBL Trophy, but were left reeling after being denied an opportunity of silverware after being shocked on their home court by Barking Abbey Crusaders in the Basketball England National Cup.
