Over the weekend the ladies of the Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters notched another win in their belt when they beat the Manchester Mystics 89-45 on Saturday 2nd November. Out of the gates the Hatters had a great start. With time now on their side, the girls displayed more team chemistry in comparison to previous games.
The Hatters truly displayed team basketball as they had four players finishing in double digits. There was never a point in the game where the Hatters weren’t on top of the Mystics and at one point in the game the biggest lead was by 44 points. Coach Ellis stressed the up-tempo style urging her girls to push the basketball for fast-break opportunities, and they did just that.
On the defensive side of the ball for the Hatters their was much more communication than seen in previous games, however the team is still looking for improvement in the area. The Hatters capitalized on their defensive efforts, scoring 33 points from turnovers created,
With such a dominating performance over the Mystics early, Coach Ellis was able to play deep into her line-up. Every girl that suited up entered the game and contributed in some aspect.
A solid performance was given by Mystics player Amy Browne as she finished the game with 15 points. Naomi Campbell and Helen Naylor were top scorers both having 21 points. Stephanie Gandy was next in line with 18 points and Kisha Lee finished with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Hatters shared the basketball well this evening and it was evident with point guard Tatianna Thomas having 6 assists and Naylor adding 5 assists to the ball game.
The Hatters look to continue this momentum as they prepare this week for their road trip to face Barking Abbey Saturday at 4pm.
