West Brom v Hatters – U18s
Here is the match report from West Brom vs Hatters under 18s.
Today Sheffield Hatters under 18 team made the long away trip to West Bromwich to take on a West Bromwich Albion side that got there first win last week and massively improved and progressed as the season has gone on.
The game got of to a bit of a slow start the Hatters won the tip and 3 minutes in Catherine scored a lovely layup before the flood gates opened and we saw some outstanding long range shooting and lovely fast flowing basketball from the Hatters girls applying the plays they have been learning in training on the court. One of the plays lead to Charlotte been left open on the inside where she scored a lovely 2 point shot right at the end of the quarter. The 1st quarter ended 9 v 25 to the Hatters.
In the 2nd quarter West Brom started really well they mived the ball at speed and started to drive towards the basket with great success they scored 13 points in that quarter and were ahead until Jess scored a fantastic 3 pointer and Ronnie had 2 fantastic interceptions that she went on to score from including a foul on 1. At halftime it was 22 v 39 to the Hatters.
In the 3rd quarter the Hatters started to defend higher up the court attempting to trap West Brom higher up the court, which lead to 3 more interceptions 2 from Millie and 1 from Ronnie a quick 6 points off of the fast break. As the Hatters were defending higher up the court it left them susceptible to longer balls in behind and the game became quite open. At the end of the 3rd quarter it was 40 v 59 to us.
The final quarter started with a lovely fast break, Jess played a lovely long ball to Dana who put in a delicious inside pass to Brigha who finished off the layup. This was quickly followed up by a lovely 3 pointer from Iona. But West Broms stoic attitude continued the final quarter ended honours even at 15 points all. The final score was 55 v 74 to the Hatters.
The top scorer today was Millie on 16 points. Once again Millie was clinical on the fast break with 2 interceptions and was very composed when it came to deciding whether to shoot or drive to basket. Millie scored 4 layups, 3 jump shots and 2 free throws.
